What Actually Determines the Value of a Superyacht?
Marcus Whitfield·30 April 2026·8 min read
Age and length are the two figures every valuation starts with, and the two that explain the least. Builder pedigree carries measurable weight at resale — certain yards hold value through downturns in a way others simply don't.
Refit history matters more than most owners assume. A documented, yard-certified refit on schedule signals a well-maintained vessel; a yacht with no refit record at ten years old raises more questions than it answers, regardless of how it presents on a viewing.
Provenance — verified single-owner history, class society records, engine hours against usage pattern — is where serious buyers spend their due-diligence time, and where a knowledgeable advisor earns their position at the table.
